About St. Luke's

In 1956, the Los Angeles Presbytery decided to organize a Presbyterian congregation on the then sparsely populated Palos Verdes Peninsula. St. Luke's was officially founded on May 11, 1956, with a charter membership of 174. Worship services were initially held at Dapplegray School. In 1957, a little over 4 acres of land were purchased on Rolling Hills Road, but services continued to be held at the school until August 5, 1962, when the congregation dedicated its new sanctuary at the present location.

In 1984-85, after a great deal of prayer and thought, it was decided to provide a home for the senior pastor and his family on the church grounds. Much time, work, and money went into the building of the manse, and we not have a beautiful home for our pastors.

Since 1997, pastoral leadership is being provided by a husband and wife co-pastor team, the Rev. Laura Krauss and the Rev. Dr. Reinhard Krauss, together filling the position of senior pastor. In their shared ministry, our pastors emphasize a cooperative leadership style with a special focus on worship and preaching, Children and Youth, mission, and interfaith relations.

St. Luke's continues to grow in many directions. Our goals for the future include a new education building for our growing Sunday School, increased membership, continuing development of our mission work, and ongoing upgrading of our buildings and grounds.
